One of Odd Future’s premiere lyricists, Hodgy Beats is often slept on because he stays out of the limelight. He’s also been dropping a lot of random singles in 2016, with no comment on an upcoming project. “GREATS” is the latest from Hodgy, and it does not disappoint.
Held together by the refrain, “can’t live without the greats,” the song places Hodgy Beats at odds with many contemporary rappers who take a more “out with the old, in with the new” stance. Beatmaking stalwart Jake One put together the production, mixing different samples for a modernized boom bap sound.
Hodgy Beats' last cut was "Kobain," which came out at the end of May.
