Flying Lotus unveils an unreleased version of "Never Catch Me" on BBC.

Flying Lotus' "You're Dead" did a good job of representing the many sides of the celebrated producer, digging deeper into the jazz, psychedelic, and rap influences he'd explored on previous releases. While he released an entire project under his Captain Murphy pseudonym (his hip-hop alter-ego), a rap verse had never actually appeared on a proper FlyLo album until his latest.

Kendrick Lamar's "Never Catch Me" is a hell of a way to kick that off, and while you're probably familiar with the record by now, Lotus premiered an alternative take on the song on a new BBC1 mix. Anyone familiar with Jazz knows that jams can go for hours (and with multiple takes) before the final recording is decided on, and this unreleased cut certainly sounds a little jammier, and more stripped down, while still keeping the vocals more or less in tact.

Quotable Lyrics:
I can see the darkness in me and it's quite amazing
Life and death is no mystery and I wanna taste it
Step inside of my mind
And you'll find curiosity, animosity
High philosophy, hyper prophesied meditation
Reminisce on my wonder years and I wonder here
Sentiments of my words ain't been so sincere
The sentiment of my nerves that I just persevere
