Raiders QB becomes highest paid player in the sport.

Derek Carr has signed a new contract extension with the Oakland Raiders, locking him up for the next six seasons and making him the highest paid player in league history.

Carr's 5-year $125 million contract extension, averaging $25 million a year, eclipses Indianapolis Colts QB Andrew Luck's $24.6 million annually as the most lucrative deal in the sport.

Last season in Oakland, Carr had a career year, throwing for 3,937 yards, 28 touchdowns and just six interceptions.

Just to recap, Carr fell to the 2nd round in the 2014 NFL Draft, started his career 0-10, and is now the highest paid player in league history.

Of course, another QB like Matt Stafford or even Kirk Cousins figures to sign a new record-breaking deal in the near future, which will be followed by record-breaking deals for Marcus Mariota or Jameis Winston the following year.

But for now nobody is more paid than the Raiders QB.
