National Geographic's gripping new documentary "LA 92" explores the police beating of Rodney King, the verdict exonerating the police officers who perpetrated the act, and the ensuing riots that shook South Central Los Angeles and divided the nation.
Another take on the Rodney King riot is also making the rounds: "The Thing I Am," a "hip hop musical" co-written by former Breitbart News executive and current White House strategist Steve Bannon.
Bannon once harbored dreams of making it in Hollywood, and whispers of his screenplay, a modern reimagining of William Shakespeare’s "Coriolanus," have circulated online since he joined Trump's campaign. NowThis got their hands on the manuscript and organized a table read with established comedic actors like Cedric Yarbrough (Reno 911), Gary Anthony Williams (The Boondocks), Rob Corddry (Ballers) and Nyima Funk (Whose Line Is It Anyway). It's even worse than we thought.
The screenplay opens with the line, “South Central is the belly; you, niggas, its mutinous member," and continues accordingly.
At one point, Funk reads the line, “Bitch, please! It becomes a man. Breasts nursing look no lovelier than when a forehead spits forth blood," and breaks character, apologizing, “Sorry, this is the first time I’ve ever said anything like this. We should talk like this more often.”
