This edition of Samples Of The Week breaks down the samples in Lupe Fiasco's "Tetsuo & Youth."

In weeks past, we've chosen to dedicate editions of Samples Of The Week to new albums by J. Cole, Fabolous and Joey Bada$$, which were all chock full of beats that utilized samples. This week, it's Lupe Fiasco's Tetsuo & Youth that gets the nod, thanks to three particularly noticeable samples/interpolations.

Read on to see where Lupe found the sounds to make his dope new album.

Tetsuo & Youth

Samples Of The Week: January 29 (Lupe Fiasco Edition)

Conceptually, one of the most interesting tracks on Tetsuo & Youth is the epic "Prisoner 1 & 2," which takes on the prison-industrial complex. The song's instrumental is lush, with piano, strings and a booming beat, but contained within is a pretty interesting sample. The string loop that lasts over half of the song is one that's found in the Apple music program Garageband, namely one called "Orchestra Strings 08." Lucky for Lupe, he's not the only one to mine Garageband for this recognizable loop, as Fort Minor also did it in 2006.

T & Y

Samples Of The Week: January 29 (Lupe Fiasco Edition)

"No Scratches" is one of the many rock-influenced joints on T & Y, but contained within is an interpolation of lyrics by one of R&B's greats. R. Kelly gets a writing credit on this one because Lupe sings "You remind me of my Jeep," which can only be traced back to one place: Kellz's classic "You Remind Me Of Something."

Tetsuo & Youth

The most instantly recognizable sample on Tetsuo & Youth comes on "Mural," another epic-length track. The song samples Cortex, an old French band who've appeared in Samples Of The Week not once, not twice, but five times in the past year. Their song in question, "Chanson D'Un Jour D'Hiver," has been sampled by Jeezy, Curren$y, Mellowhype, Logic, Smoke DZA, Fat Joe, King Louie and many more. It's time to find some new sample material, guys.
