Pro Bowl cornerback Patrick Peterson is staying with the Arizona Cardinals after all.
Earlier this week, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that Peterson "desperately" wants out of Arizona and had asked the Cardinals to trade him before next Tuesday's NFL trade deadline. Furthermore, Peterson's cousin and former NFL cornerback Bryant McFadden tweeted that the New Orleans Saints are his "ideal trade destination."
Today, Peterson took to social media to put the rumors to rest.
According to ESPN, the 28-year old star met with Cardinals president Michael Bidwill for 30 minutes on Tuesday, and they discussed ways for the Cardinals to improve and for Peterson to be a leader.
"I've been incredibly frustrated with how the season has gone," Peterson wrote in the post. "But my energy is 100% focused on being part of the solution & helping us turn this around. I've never shied away from a challenge before and I'm not starting now. I have always given my all to the Cardinals organization & fans. That is what I intend to do for the years to come. I am an Arizona Cardinal, and my focus is on this weeks game."
Arizona selected Peterson out of LSU with the fifth overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft and he has made the Pro Bowl in every season, including three First-Team All-Pro selections. He signed a five-year extension worth $70 million in 2014 and has two years left on that deal.
Through seven games this season, the Cardinals are 1-6 but they'll get a rare opportunity for a win on Sunday as they host the equally inept San Francisco 49ers.
