Chris Brown became famous as an r'n'b singer, but the singer has been known to dabble in rap from time-to-time. Whether it's a full mixtape project of Breezy rapping, or he's hopping on a random track and throwing shots at Drake, Chris Brown delivers bars on some level. However, the singer isn't focused on making a full-out hip-hop album just yet.
Although fans can expect that there may be a bit of rapping on Chris' upcoming album, X, the singer isn't sure if the world is ready for "Chris Brown, the rapper," just yet. Breezy says he needs to hone his skills on the mic a little more before that happens, in a recent interview with Power 98, as HipHopDX reports.
"For me, I think I would have to progress more as an emcee first," he acknowledged during the interview. "It's just me having fun and showcasing who I am. So an album, I would really have to be taken a hundred percent serious as a rapper. I like Rap. I love it. Music is my passion. Even on my album now, there's a couple songs that I rap on. But as far as a whole album, I don't know if the world is ready for Chris Brown, the rapper."
He also spoke on different genres of music causing segregation. "Music is for everyone. When you put genres on music, you segregate it... I want to always be able to do any kind of music I want. When I get older I might want to do a Country album. Next year, I might want to do an all Hip Hop album or Alternative album. Just making sure that anything that goes down, showing my audience or showing people that have a creative mind that you can do anything you want, it’s just about believing and loving what you’re doing in a positive way," said Chris Brown.
Chris Brown previously admitted that he is not actually a rapper, and for that reason, his rhymes shouldn't be taken seriously (he was referring to Young Jeezy's "RIP").
Drake seemed to agree with this, when he responded to Chris Brown's jabs saying, "I don't want to hear that man rap. No one wants to hear me rap against him. I really do this shit."
