The King, has returned.

With the worldwide success of the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit series, it's no surprise that Amazon negotiated the rights to produce a series based in Middle-Earth. Looking at the success of shows like Game of Thrones, it's easy to discern that the market for fantasy has a high demand (especially with Game of Thrones set to end next year). Amazon will cater to the audience that created the billion dollar Lord of the Rings industry with a new show.

As reported by TheOneRing.net, the first season of Amazon's LOTR will focus on a young Aragon. The character was played by Viggo Mortensen in the original trilogy, and was arguably the main character. Aragon is the last Chieftain of the DĂșnedain, and a descendant of Isildur, the last king of Gondor. In The Fellowship of the Ring, Isildur is the king who chooses not to destroy the one ring of power, and becomes possessed with its energy. In The Return of the King, Aragon redeems his ancestors' name and defeats Sauron and his armies, uniting Gondor and becoming a fabled king.

Exploring Aragon's backstory would be an astonishing way to start the first season of the show. Amazon has already committed to five seasons.
