DeGeneres hasn't filmed a special in over a decade.

Most comics survive by staying on tour or starring in Hollywood films. Times have changed in the last decade, and comedy club routines and the public's support of aspiring comics have dwindled. Maybe it's because half the population relies on memes now for their humor. Ellen DeGeneres doesn't need to go on tour to keep her comedic career going though. The Ellen DeGeneres Show has been on television since 2003, which means the quirky show host is swimming residual income. Still, DeGeneres must be feeling the need to vent her comedic genius on a less family-friendly platform. The veteran comic and Netflix announced their partnership earlier this year, but now the streaming giant has blessed consumers with a release date for DeGeneres' new stand up special.

Entitled Relatable, DeGeneres' Netflix debut will be her first stand up special in 15 years. Her last special, HBO’s Ellen DeGeneres: Here and Now, aired in 2003. Relatable was filmed at the Benaroya Hall in Seattle. In a short trailer for the special, DeGeneres answers calls from Bono and Barack Obama, both of which are excited about her new special. For some reason, I'm inclined to believe that both Bono and Obama really do call DeGeneres from time to time. Relatable touches down on Netflix on  December 18.
