A new poll from Gallup reveals how less than three-quarters of Americans classify themselves as patriotic, a term that has become increasingly trivial in the current political and social climate. The most indisputable drop comes from those individuals allying with the Democratic party, as only 32 percent reveal they are proud of their citizenship, down from 47 percent in 2017, and 56 percent in 2013.
On the other hand, 74 percent of Republicans flaunt their patriotism, identifying as "extremely proud." However, only 47 percent of the total tally consider themselves enthusiastic Americans, which is an 18-year low.
Since Gallup began tabulating American pride, the figure has ebbed and flowed throughout the years, hitting a peak in 2003 at 70 percent. However, the company notes how widespread patriotism has begun to drastically recede since 2015, just as the 2016 presidential election went into overdrive.
Ironically, these results were released a day before the Fourth of July, which is also known as America's birthday.
