Popcaan might just be the rightful heir to Vybz Kartel.

Popcaan's new LP Forever arrived at midsummer mark to answer concerns 2018 hadn't produced a "song for the season." This time last year, casual rap fans were pulling the milly rock in their sleep, and mouthing the words to Cardi B's "Bodak Yellow" 'til it got old and imitable. No matter the circumstances, be that of a relative drought, or worse a lack of dancehall in our summer sets. Popcaan doesn't just offer a blammer or two, but an album worth of contenders, none more resonant than "Silence," the opening number on Forever.

"Silence" is a song that communicates Popcaan's growing distrust of those around him, a grudge he holds with everyone assembled in his entourage except Dre Skull whom he shouts in the intro grumblings. Mixpak's Dre Skull, the album's chief engineer and producer, has helped dancehall, as well as his label, reach a global audience with Popcaan at the helm. Songs like "Silence" cement Popcaan's assertion of dancehall supremacy in the wake of Vybz Kartel's imprisonment.

Quotable Lyrics:

Evil them send me say the whole of them a miss
Go for the psalms them a send for the chalice
Them just a watch me like a radio analyst
But me unstoppable memba me tell you this
In the music I'm like a fucking senator
Them a the fucking janitor
None of my link no regular
Mad sick, head no good like predator
Watch who you tell when you a buy new bimma
