AZ Chike clears the air.

AZ Chike is clearing Kendrick Lamar’s name after rumors that the “Squabble Up” MC was accused of removing his verse from No Rest For The Wicked. During a recent concert, Chike told fans that Kendrick Lamar never had a verse to begin with.

“He ain’t take a damn thing back,” he said. “It was never a verse, and I made sure I tried not to imply that ‘cause I knew how crazy those pictures were gonna look.”

The rumors of a Kendrick verse began when Chike shared photos of himself and Kendrick Lamar on socials, sparking speculation that there would be a follow-up to “peekaboo.” Ultimately, this led to media pundits suggesting that the feature could be a new verse that could potentially reignite some sort of rap beef. Evidently, that wasn’t the case.

In a video shared ahead of the album, Chike shared some words of advice that Kendrick gave him. "Just keep building the motherf***er," K.Dot told him. "Knock them out, just go. Don't even overthink it. Just go. Have fun with it."

While we didn’t get a verse from Kendrick, Chike suggested in an interview with Bootleg Kev that it was a possibility. It didn’t pan out, but apparently, K. Dot played a hand in sequencing the tracklist.

"I sent the album to Dot, the song is called 'God's Favorite,'" Chike added. "He like, "'God's Favorite' in the back? [...] Nah, we got to change that.' That n***a pushed that motherf****er up to track three. But he know what he doing. He like, 'They gon' want this from you for sure.'"

Whether or not we get another collaboration from the two has yet to be determined. However, Chike clearly has a lot of appreciation for Kendrick’s contributions to his album, even if it wasn’t in the form of a coveted verse.
