Former NBA star and two-time champion JR Smith was arrested in Texas on Monday and subsequently charged with assault causing bodily injury family violence, according to TMZ.
The former Cleveland Cavalier is currently being held at the Hunt County Detention Center. A bond hearing has yet to be completed, and therefore, Smith must remain behind bars until further notice.
It was reported that an automatic license plate reader is what ultimately led to his arrest. The reader flagged his vehicle and let authorities know that there was an active warrant out for his arrest. The basketball star's brother eventually took possession of his vehicle following the booking.

At this time, details of the allegations are few and far between. It is unknown what incident would have sparked such a serious assault charge. However, more details are coming in as the situation develops.
Smith played 16 years in the NBA and played on teams like the New York Knicks and Cleveland Cavaliers. He even won a championship with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2020.
He eventually went back to school at North Carolina A&T State University. It is here that he got to play for their golf program while also receiving a Liberal Studies undergraduate degree.
