This weekend, the Internet had much to dissect when an old clip of comedians Chris Rock, Louis C.K., Ricky Gervais and Jerry Seinfeld surfaced from a 2011 HBO special. In the video, C.K., Rock, and Gervais use the word "ni--er," with Chris Rock referring to Louis C.K. as "the blackest white man" he knows while Jerry Seinfeld chooses not to say the word, voicing his distaste for it.
The snippet stirred up much debate about the use of the controversial term, and many have had their chance to chime in, largely voicing their disapproval of Louis C.K. and Ricky Gervais's use of the word. Most recently, TMZ caught up with Wayne Brady and asked the actor, comedian and television host of his own thoughts on the new conversation sparked by the clip and he had opinions on everyone's behavior.
"It was inappropriate," he told the outlet. "Louis C.K. shouldn't have been saying it. Chris Rock shouldn't have signed off on it. Ricky Gervais sure as hell shouldn't have said it and I'm a Ricky Gervais fan and Seinfeld stayed out of it, but that doesn't make him a hero or a saint. It just made him tactically smart."
He concluded by clarifying that it was an old clip and shouldn't necessarily be used to define the comedians, but did issue a general warning for everyone to just steer clear of the "n-word."
"I just think it's completely inappropriate that Louis C.K. felt so comfortable. People feel too comfortable saying that and just don't. I don't care if your best friend is the blackest dude in the world, don't."
