After being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and with the biopic All Eyez On Me on the way, Tupac nostalgia is at an all-time high. Now comes the news that Oscar-winning director Steve McQueen will helm an authorized biopic about the life and legacy of the hip-hop legend.

Sanctioned by Pac’s estate, White Horse Pictures and Jayson Jackson will produce the film.

"I am extremely moved and excited to be exploring the life and times of this legendary artist," McQueen said. "[...] Few, if any shined brighter than Tupac Shakur. I look forward to working closely with his family to tell the unvarnished story of this talented man."

Interscope Records and Universal Music Publishing Group, the entities who own most of Tupac's song catalog will be providing full support to the documentary.

No word yet on a release date for the documentary.
