Columbia has signed Pharrell as an artist. His solo album for the label is due in 2014.

Pharrell was behind some of the biggest hits of 2013, including Robin Thicke's "Blurred Lines," and Daft Punk's "Get Lucky". He certainly proved that his songwriting chops have not dwindled with age, which is why it comes as no surprise that Columbia have signed him as an artist.

The label announced the deal today, indicating that Skateboard P's forthcoming solo effort would see release in 2014. Unfortunately, they provided no further details in terms of a date, but did confirm that the songwriter's track, "Happy," from the Despicable Me 2 soundtrack (also known for its ambitious video) would appear on the album.

Pharrell hinted at the direction of his next project in a recent interview. "I love rapping," he said, "but—something’s coming, and I’m not rapping on it."
