Joel Embiid has tried to keep his love life a secret as of late but that's nearly impossible in the social media era, especially when you're a 7'0 All-Star center. As part of GQ's first digital cover story, Embiid was asked about dating life in the NBA and explained that he has a girlfriend who is “pretty big at what she does.”
While Embiid didn't reveal his girlfriend's name, word has already gotten out that the mystery woman is none other than Sports Illustrated swimsuit model Anne de Paula. The two had been a rumored couple for weeks now, beginning when they were spotted together at the same club in Miami over the Summer. She was also seen court side at a recent Sixers game sporting Embiid's #21 jersey.
If that clue wasn't enough, Sixers co-owner Michael Rubin really let the cat out of the bag earlier this week when he shared a photo of the two kissing after Philly's 116-115 victory against the Orlando Magic.
When asked about dating as an NBA star, Embiid tells GQ's Clay Skipper, "You gotta do your background check. You don't want to be that guy marrying a girl that someone else in the NBA has been with.... I'm sure some guys end up getting married to women that have been around. And maybe on the court they also get told"—here he lowers his voice to a whisper—"Hey, I fucked your wife.")
