The RIAA has certified both Dr. Dre and The Weeknd's albums as Gold.

Album sales don't move as fast as they used to, but the biggest releases do manage to hit gold within a year, with a very select few making it to platinum status. The two most recent 2015 releases to get gold certification from the RIAA (which is measured on a different scale than Nielsen Soundscan, and doesn't include streams) are Dr. Dre's Compton and The Weeknd's Beauty Behind The Madness.

Seeing as both LPs dropped in the summer, this is an impressive feat by any measure. While Compton's sales were big in the beginning and have since slowed down considerably, Abel's album has maintained a top 5 chart position for the last 2 months. Our money is on The Weeknd hitting platinum first, but we'll just have to wait and see.
