The N.W.A. cart takeover is far from over. this week, nit only did Dr. Dre's new album (and accompaniment to the film), Compton, maintain its position at the top of the rap charts, but both the group's seminal album, Straight Outta Compton, and Eazy-E's effort, Eazy-Duz-It made it into the top 40. It doesn't stop there, with Dre's The Chronic coming in at 38, 2001 at 55, N.W.A's Greatest Hits at 93, Ice Cube's Death Certificate at 99, HIS greatest hits at 118, yet another Best Of comp from the group at 119, and finally, Cube's Amerikkka’s Most Wanted at 150. So yeah, guess people liked the movie.
Check out a breakdown of the top albums this week below.
1) Dr. Dre—Compton: Dre remains at the top of the rap pile, down from number 2 to number 3 with 43,081 sold (50,916 with streams). After two weeks, it's sitting at 319,203 units sold.
2) N.W.A—Straight Outta Compton: N.W.A. have made their highest-ever appearance on the charts following the release of Straight Outta Compton. They're up from 30 to 4 this week, with 31,878 in sales (44,120 with streams).
3) Future—DS2: Future is still in the running with his most successful album to date, bringing in 12,781 traditional sales this week and 27,873 including streams. His total tally is 205,000.
4) Drake—IYRTITL: After recently passing the million mark, Drake continues to sell consistently, taking a minor fall from 10 to 14 this week. He moves 7,884 units (20,686 with streams), and is looking at a total of 1,023,000 in sales so far.
5) Meek Mill—Dreams Worth More Than Money: Despite being deemed the loser in his beef with Drake, Meek hasn't really seen a decrease in sales. This week his sophomore album sold 4,638 copies (16,505 with streams). He's at 330,000 overall.
6) Chinx—Welcome To JFK: Chinx posthumous release managed to chart this week, debuting at 21 with 14,600 copies sold (16,467 with streams).
7) J. Cole—2014 Forest Hills Drive: Cole is getting damn close to matching Drake's recent accomplishment of 1 million traditional sales. He's moved (6,385) copies this week (4,518 with streams) for a total of 991,000.
8) Eazy-E—Eazy-Duz-It/5150 4 Tha Sick: Yet another album that has seen a spike in sales following the release of Straight Outta Compton is Eazy's solo record. Like the group's album before it, Eazy Duz It makes its highest chart placement to date this week, coming in at 32 with 5,720 copies sold (11,472 with streams).
N.W.A. was also present on the Hot 100, earning their very first top 40 hit with "Straight Outta Compton" coming in at 38. Meanwhile, Eazy-E's "Boyz-N-The Hood" made its way in at 50. Still, Fetty Wap could not be dethroned, taking up number 8, 9, 11, and 40 with his recent string of hits, "679" making its way to being the highest charting of the bunch this week. Other songs to watch are K Camp's "Comfortable," up from 82 to 71 this week, and @IHeartMemphis' "Hit The Quan," which makes its debut at 41.
