About Bobby Shmurda

Bobby Shmurda is an American rapper from Brooklyn, signed to Epic Records. He has released the song "Hot Nigga", which involved the "Shmoney Dance".

Shmurda was born in Florida to a Jamaican father and Trinidadian mother. He has an older brother. After his father was incarcerated, Shmurda and his mother relocated to East Flatbush, Brooklyn,a neighborhood in New York City. Shmurda spent fifteen months in detention for a probation violation and was also arrested on gun charges, which were ultimately dropped. Shurmda started rapping at age ten. The first song he remixed was Crime Mob's "Knuck If You Buck" in 2004.

In 2014, Shmurda broke through with the song "Hot Nigga", released in March of that year. It features the beat from Lloyd Banks' song "Jackpot", Jahlil Beats. The video which contains a choregraphy that was later named the "Shmoney dance", was made in the summer of 2013. The song became popular among Vine users and soon lead to the "Shmoney dance" meme. Beyoncé did the move at a venue of her On the Run Tour. Drake used the song while hosting the 2014 ESPY Awards. Freestyles by various rappers have since then been released among which Juicy J, French Montana, Lil Kim, Gunplay, and T.I.. The song charted at No. 21 on the Billboard Rap Digital chart. In July 2014, Shmurda performed with Meek Mill and later signed a recording deal with Epic Records. A remix of "Hot Nigga" featuring Chris Brown, Jadakiss, and Busta Rhymes is in the works. Shmurda is also working on his debut album with Jahlil Beats.
