XXXTentacion's IG post of him "hanging himself" was a preview of an upcoming video, not real.

XXXTENTACION has never been afraid to go the extra mile for some attention & shock value. Hell, that’s pretty much how he built his loyal fanbase on the internet, but on Wednesday night, X might have gone over board when he posted a rather disturbing clip on IG showing him allegedly hanging himself from a tree. The video, which had no caption, starts with only his forehead surrounded by the trees before the phone drops and a glimpse of XXXTentacion is seen hanging from the tree for a brief second.

While many fans questioned whether it was real or not, XXXTentacion has finally addressed the clip, confirming that it’s from an upcoming video shoot.

With a behind the scenes clip of the upcoming video playing, X shared the following message about the controversial post on Instagram Wednesday late night… “if you thought I would “pretend” to kill myself for a publicity stunt you’re fucking stupid.”

Even though his caption debunks the idea of him doing all this as a publicity stunt, the post appears to be just that. After all, X’s upcoming album, 17, is dropping tomorrow night, and has some very disturbing images on the album cover, one of which finds someone handwriting… "There is no end to the pain. You must be numb" with a drawing of a noose hanging under it.

According to Complex, X actually addressed the post further in detail earlier on Twitter, but has since deleted the tweets. He apparently said that he hadn't commented on the clip because he was busy filming & editing. He also explained that the noose was "a prop from a slavery scene," before waving off the idea that people would be worried it was real. "I figured [my fans] would know which song it was for," he said.

Check out his latest IG post & snapchat story (below) and revisit the initial controversial post right here if you missed it. Look for that upcoming music video to be dropping soon then. Stay tuned.
