The track comes from his recently released project titled "Just Thank You," a record that includes features from fellow artists Chance The Rapper, Rexx Life Raj, Duffle Bag Buru, and Dounia.
Supa Bwe explained the meaning behind the Lonewolf-directed visual to Highsnobiety in an email by writing, “‘I Hate You’ is about the struggles of love and the duality that lies within loving someone you shouldn’t. I made the beat to ‘I Hate You’ in 2015 but wasn’t able to fully articulate the song until this past year. This song is very personal to me. The video represents a man who has everything, but nothing at the same time. The praying mantis scene where the female eats the male represents the song and the nature of the relationship I’m speaking on.”
