Over the past few weeks, we've brought a few emcees to the booth to show and prove what they got. The art of freestyle differs from a written rap so we had to see which rappers are really about their craft. In today's age, hip hop focuses less on bars and more on flow and catchiness. However, we brought Vancouver's SonReal through recently for our fifth edition to our HNHH Freestyle Sessions to kick some heavy bars.
SonReal has made waves throughout Canada with the number of albums and mixtapes he's put out. Those same efforts have made him one of the few Canadian rappers who stand out without a co-sign from Drake. He isn't one to hop on the latest trends with his music. Instead, he emphasizes on his lyricism and overall delivery as a rapper, committing himself to being a great rapper. On our latest HNHH Freestyle Session, SonReal came through to drop off a short but sweet little freestyle. As usual, the beat was provided by our in-house videographer and producer, LoaGaze, who came through with a sample heavy, boom-bap oriented beat that's perfect for SonReal's style. To date, he may the one of the strongest emcees to step in our booth and show us what he's made of.
Our HNHH Freestyle Sessions is the latest series we've put together for the fall. Each Tuesday, we're delivering new sessions with some of our favorite rappers out right now. However, we're not limiting the series to rappers. Expect some singers to come through and show us what they got as well as some OG's in the game.
