The prophecy Smokepurpp delivered on his late 2016 mixtape Up Now Fuck Next is coming true. He has since signed a major label deal with Todd Moscowitz's Alamo Records, racked up 164 thousand SoundCloud followers, and stepped up to the brink of national stardom. This morning, Purpp debuts "Audi.," a new track form his upcoming mixtape DEADSTAR. Anchored by distorted bass and filled out with sonic flourishes that evoke the despair wrought by the plagues of Egypt, "Audi." is about flexing on account of what Purpp already has built for himself, and ambition for his future plans.
"DEADSTAR is my swan song, if you will," he said in an email to HNHH. "Not saying I'm going to die soon or stop making music, but this is me transitioning into a new form. 'Audi' will be very pleasing for those who followed me from the beginning because it has elements of the what people are used to. But the new project as a whole isn't fully indicative of that sound. DEADSTAR is me going deeper into the abyss, deeper into my vices and deeper into the void."
"This new project is progression, experimentation and newness," he added.
