Two days before the release of his debut album, With You, Bay Area producer/DJ Slaptop has shared a his new single, “What I Mean,” featuring the adept Baltimore rapper Tate Kobang, who has a penchant for smooth dancey beats like this one.

A student of jazz, Slaptop’s musical background affords him a nuanced approach to EDM. He opens the track with his own vocals, and the song’s love-drunk emotions are then skillfully expressed with a high-energy verse from Kobang. With a soothing backdrop of light synths, whimsical percussion, and titillating harps, “What I Mean” is upbeat enough for the dancefloor but also suitably gentle for more intimate enclosures.

With You drops this Friday on Sunsquad Records. Pre-order the 11-track album here
