For the hook, Redman strolls down memory lane, citing some of his most iconic lyrics thus far. "Sawed off shotgun, hand on the pump, sippin' on a forty, yo smokin' on a blunt," he raps, taking us back to the glorious days of "Da Rockwilder." Though frequent partner Method Man is not riding shotty on this endeavor, Redman proves that he has yet to lose a step. Sliding over some heavy boom-bap styled production, Red pays homage to the genre with references to young and old, from Meek Mill to B-Real.
"I'm supreme, street smart marine," raps Red, "hook off like Kareem, trying to stop my lean cuisine." Though veteran through and through, Redman borrows his runtime from the scholars of today, clocking in at just over two minutes; in that regard "I Love Hip-Hop" feels more apertif than main course. Still, it goes to show that Redman still has gas left in the tank, and can no doubt rap circles around competition in any weight class.
Stay ready for that Muddy Waters 2 joint, set to drop later this year.
