According to reports, Nike won the rights to 20 fake sneaker-selling domains, including sites like “nikeairmax97.com,” “shopsnikeukoutlet.com” and “nike-trademark.com," in a UDRP dispute at the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Arbitration and Mediation Centre.
The official ruling, handed down by Wilson Pinheiro Jabur, states that the 20 websites in question are to be transferred to Nike, because the original registrant of the names, Gueijuan Xu, had registered and used them in bad faith. Some of those sites selling fake Nike products are still online, but most will automatically redirect you to the official Nike web store.
Jabur said: “The complainant’s mark is one of the most valuable trademarks in the world, and the respondent reproduced the complainant’s well-known logo and products in some of the webpages to which Internet users are redirected.”
Nike has been busy in the courtroom this year, including a recent lawsuit against PUMA for ripping off the beloved Nike Flyknit technology.
