A shipment containing nearly $12 million worth of fake championship and other team rings were reportedly seized by U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials last month.
According to a report by TMZ Sports, officials seized a total of 177 counterfeit pieces during an inspection of a shipment sent from China to the United States on March 11.
TMZ reports that officials believe that the haul of fake rings could have been worth $11.7 million if sold to unsuspecting consumers.
"This most recent interception of counterfeit sports rings demonstrates the ongoing vigilance and commitment to the mission by our CBP Officers and Import Specialists," officials said, per TMZ.
The fake hardware included New York Yankees World Series rings as well as Philadelphia Eagles and New England Patriots Super Bowl rings. The Yanks haven't earned a championship ring since 2009 when they defeated the Philadelphia Phillies, but both the Pats and Eagles have won rings in the last two seasons.
Fans who are willing to splurge on some of that Super Bowl bling should be happy to know that a large supply of counterfeits have been taken off the market.
