The arrival of Lamar Odom's Darkness to Light memoir is around the corner, but until it arrives PEOPLE has been delivering on exclusive excerpts of particular moments of interest within the reading and in their latest discovery, Odom uses the work to open up about his experience during the 2004 Summer Olympics, with one passage detailing his use of a prosthetic penis to pass a drug test in order to compete with the USA team.
"[...] the joy of being named to the twelve-man roster quickly turned to anxiety when Olympic officials informed me that I would have to pass a drug test before officially joining the team,” Odom says in the book.
While calling the chance to play for the U. S basketball team "one of the biggest honors in my career," he adds the length he went to pass the screening. "There was absolutely no way I was going to pass. I’d been smoking weed every day that summer. Panic set in."

Odom goes on to detail how he called on his more trine and after an extensive search on how to pass a drug test, the two came up with the idea to order a fake penis that would hold the trainer's clean pee.
"After an exhaustive search we ordered a giant, rubber, black cock to arrive the next day," pens Odom, adding that he "carefully slid the fake penis through the zipper hole. To get the pee to come out of the tip, I had to squeeze the shaft repeatedly."
Ultimately, Odom's ploy was successful and the men's squad would go on to earn a Bronze medal that summer.
