Kevin Hart is one of the most sought-after comedians in Hollywood right now. It's damn near impossible to avoid Hart these days. It came as no surprise that the Oscars tapped Hart to host the 2019 award show for the first time ever. However, an upcoming trial might get in the way of his hosting duties in the new year.
After a judge shut down Kevin Hart's attempt to get his former partner, iGo Marketing & Entertainment's $2M lawsuit against him thrown out, the comedian will be starting trial around the time of the Oscars, The Blast reports. The judge determined Hart's former partner has provided enough evidence for the case to move forward. The trial is set to begin on Jan. 17 which is a little over a month before Kevin Hart hosts the Oscars on Feb 24th.
"The Court concludes that the defendants have failed to establish entitlement to judgment as a matter of law and that there are material and triable issues of fact presented and thus the motion for summary judgment must be denied," the judge stated after denying Hart's attempt to dismiss the case.
iGo Marketing initially sued Hart for breach of contract and are looking for no less than $1.8M after accusing the comedian of failing to hold up his end of their agreement. Hart responded to the lawsuit. saying they never had a written agreement.
