In a post-listening party interview with Big Boy in Wyoming, Kanye West explained that the album that the world heard didn't exist two months ago, and that he completely remade his album after his controversial appearance on TMZ, where he tried to explain his comments about how "slavery was a choice."
"I just completely did a completely new album," Kanye said. "With what the universe was giving me, I wanted something that matched that energy."
"I completely redid the album after TMZ," Kanye continued. "We just sat there and really honed in on the words."
Kanye's appearance at TMZ proved instantly polarizing, and it seemed that everyone in the world had an opinion on what Kanye had to say. Kanye mentions that this had a chilling effect on some of the lyrics that were supposed to be on the album.
"We know now it's all headlines and every bar can be used," Kanye said. "There were even bars that we had about that. I took them off the album. It was just too sensitive. It was about that topic. I was like, 'Yo, I'm going to just chill right now."
While we're unlikely to ever hear the version the album that got scrapped, it's interesting to speculate about what it could have contained. Perhaps all the TMZ backlash actually got Kanye to rethink some of his opinions.
