She passed away for reasons similar to that of her late father.

Venisha Brown died in Georgia on Wednesday, September 19th. The daughter of the late Godfather of Soul James Brown passed away at the Medical Center in Augusta, Ga. at the age of 53. The James Brown Foundation announced the family's loss the next day. Funeral arrangements for Venisha have yet to be made public.

The foundation attributes her death to  “complications brought on pneumonia.” Her late father, James Brown died in 2006 in a similar context. The iconic funk artist passed away due to congestive heart failure, which was also a complication brought on by pneumonia.

A specific request has been made by the Brown family to those who wish to pay their respects to Venisha Brown. Rather than sending the Browns flowers, fellow mourners are asked to make a financial donation to the James Brown Academy of Musik Pupils instead. The charitable organization, "a year-round educational hub," is a musical initiative that helps members of today's youth to discover and develop their musical talents and skills.

James Brown had at least nine children, including Venisha Brown. Her mother was the Yvonne Fair, who was also a musician. Fair was part of a girl group during the 50's called The Chantels. Vanisha Brown took after her parents as a talented singer and songwriter.
