We haven't heard anything from Freddie Gibbs in 2015, though last year's Piñata still sounds fresh as ever. Tonight, though, he quietly dropped a three-track EP called Pronto. Upon first listen, it's the same hard-earned quality that we've come to expect from Gangsta Gibbs.
The standout cut on the EP is the title track. "Pronto" is miles away from most of Piñata. Instead of Madlib's vinylicious soul samplings, we get a minimal electronic beat that's as cold as a lifeless winter night in Gary, Indiana. And instead of rapping in a cool monotone, Gibbs rips right into this track with every bit of breath he has.
