Fortnite continues to claim dominion over the video game world. The billion dollar game is free-to-play, but microtransactions have earned game developer Epic Games mountains of cash. Although Fortnite has captured such a big audience based on its free format and non-competitive gameplay, some gamers take the third person shooter very seriously. The overall theme of Fortnite is to keep things fun, entertaining, and interactive. Still, real competitors seek a challenge, and Epic Games is bringing back their Solo Showdown Mode to answer their lust for more action.
Solo Showdown is competitive because it tracks players’ performances over the course of 25 solo games. Gamers earn points for how close they finish to first place. For example, first place gets 100 points, second place gets 94, and so on down the list of players. Gamers are also awarded six points per elimination. After 25 matches, the gamers who rise to the top of the competitive boards will be awarded V-bucks. First place gets 50,000 V-bucks, second through fourth places earn 25,000, and fifth through 50th places get 13,500. The remaining top 100 players on the board will receive 7,500 V-Bucks. Top performers will also be randomly invited to future Summer Skirmish matches, where the world's best Fortnite players compete for actual money.
