El Chapo: writer, director, actor.

Now that El Chapo can kick back and relax, knowing that there's likely nothing he can do about spending the rest of his life in jail, maybe he can shift his focus in the direction he's apparently wanted for a very long time: from the narcotic to the more artistic pursuits.

According to Reuters, Chapo's secretary Alex Cifuentas, testified on Monday that he and his wife had been urging Chapo to make a movie for ages and that Chapo actually had movie plans in the works. He was in contact with producers and actors, and this apparently led to his being captured in the end, Mexico’s ex-Attorney General Arely Gomez even called this contact an “important aspect that helped locate him.”

There is also very important fact that El Chapo even got in touch with Sean Penn and invited him to come interview him in the mountains. According to the article Penn wrote, the two talked about Chapo getting into the film business, with Chapo saying he was "interested in the movie business and how it works" but also "unimpressed with its financial yield," which makes sense considering he said, in the same interview, that "I supply more heroin, methamphetamine, cocaine and marijuana than anybody else in the world. I have a fleet of submarines, airplanes, trucks and boats.” So the movie would be more of a vanity project than a money-making venture, then.
