"I'm an actor, a writer, and a singer — some people like to call me a triple threat, but I kinda like to call myself just a threat," stated Donald Glover in his opening monologue for SNL this past weekend. The "threat" pulled double duty, he hosted as Glover and performed as musical guest Childish Gambino. The night was a magical one, and it was possibly the funniest SNL episode in recent memory. Glover also previewed two new songs, "This Is America" (which he also dropped an artistic and mind-blowing music video for), and "Saturday."
In between the new music, Glover starred in several hilarious sketches, including a parody of the recent horror film A Quiet Place, called "A Kanye Place," where cast members react to the polarizing tweets from Mr. West. Glover also created a hilarious Migos parody, that will have you laughing to tears. The combination of amazing music and funny sketches helped propel SNL to a much-needed ratings boost.
According to Deadline, SNL averaged a 4.1 Live+same day rating in the metered-market households and a 1.8 among adults 18-49 in the markets with local people meters. The last time SNL had ratings that high, it was about a year ago. Scarlett Johansson, Jimmy Fallon, Ben Stiller, Martin Short, Alec Baldwin and none other than Stormy Daniels also appeared in cameo spots during the episode.
