Supporting their October 2018 release of Masters of the Sun, Vol. 1, the Black Eyed Peas have dropped the visual for their single, "Get Ready." The socio-political album is inspired by Marvel and BEP member Will.i.am's graphic novel that bears the same name. "Get Ready" has a nostalgic sound the beautifully blends b-boy beats, old school hip hop, with a twist of Harlem Renaissance-styled jazz.
In the visual for "Get Ready," Will.i.am, Apl.de.ap and Taboo are set in front of a brick wall where they are seen jumping in slow motion. As they each perform their verses, sections of their lyrics come to life in animated graffiti art. Before the release of Masters of the Sun, Vol. 1, eight years had passed since the group's studio album, The Beginning, and this time around they're addressing issues that weigh heavily on our global culture—albeit this time without Fergie.
“We thought we were gonna come back in a year,” Will.i.am told Rolling Stone. "Then the year turned into two years. Then Taboo caught cancer like the flu – and beat it – and three years turned into four years, and four years turned in five years." He continued, "The record company is like, [mocking voice] 'We really want the Black Eyed Peas super big, you know, you guys been gone for so long. We want to make sure we have big explosion with the Black Eyed Peas being back. You know, what I mean by explosion? Will, you guys are big pop group! You got the big pop songs!' Like, nah n***a, we did that. Nah, this is what we’re doing."
