The hip-hop community at large is still reeling from the death of young rapper Lil Peep. The budding Internet sensation passed away of a suspected drug overdose prior to a concert he was supposed to perform at in Tuscon, Arizona on November 16th. Now, courtesy of TMZ, the emcee's tragic end is getting a bit more context. As per information offered up by his manager, most of the day prior to his death had unfolded as normal.
The police report from the incident states that, as of that morning, Peep's manager was in contact with him while he was on his tour bus and, after that face-to-face, appeared fine. However, things took a turn for the worse later that night. The rapper went for a pre-show nap at around 5:45 pm where, after some time spent resting, his manager went to check on him. While he seemed to be breathing normally and was snoring as well, but she had been unable to wake him. Chalking it up to higher-than-normal fatigue, she left him to his slumber for a little while longer. When another check on the rapper was made later in the evening, he was completely unresponsive.
CPR was immediately administered, with no response from Lil Peep. When the police arrived, the situation had become dire. As unfortunate as the circumstances are, the police, like the autopsy, also points to a drug-related demise. Authorities found several Xanax pills, loose marijuana and an unknown tan powder on the rapper's tour bus when they investigated the scene further. Peep was just 21 years of age.
The artist's girlfriend, Arzaylea, recently took to Instagram to share a lengthy, heartfelt tribute that described her loss as "soul wrenching." "This post isn’t for anyone else," she said. "Nothing i post about him will be for anyone else. i feel the only way i can express myself is through writing, creating, and sharing the love i had for him [...] I want everyone to know gustav was not human. he was a beautiful force of energy not capable of baring the pain and anxiety of this reality. [...] he instilled a confidence in me i hadn’t felt from another human before. he laid down a path and it’s my job to pave the rest. i am going to make you so proud."
