During today's game between the Shanghai Sharks and the Beijing Fly Dragons, former NBA players Stephon Marbury and Jimmer Fredette got into an altercation and had to be separated by their teammates and officials.
Fredette, who is currently playing for the Shanghai Sharks, felt he was hacked by the 40-year old vet as he went up for a fast break layup during the third quarter of the tightly contested game, and he immediately let Starbury know about it. When refs didn't call a foul on the play, the 28-year old guard reacted by shoving Marbury as play continued down at the other end of the court. Naturally, Marbury didn't hesitate to get right in Fredette's face.
Fredette and the Sharks went on to win the game in overtime, 123-119.
Jimmer Fredette played for the Shanghai Sharks last season for the first time, and re-upped with the team on a $1.8 million deal back in July. Earlier this week he recorded 50 points, 10 rebounds, 9 assists and 3 steals in a win. The former BYU star is currently averaging 38.6 points a game, which leads the CBA in scoring.
Stephon Marbury, on the other hand, has played in the Chinese Basketball Association since 2010. Marbury spent most of his time in the CBA playing for the Beijing Ducks, but recently signed on with the Flying Dragons in July after announcing that the 2017-18 CBA season would be his last. Last season with the Ducks he averaged 21.4 points, 5.5 assists and 4.0 rebounds in 36 games.
In September, Marbury announced via twitter that he was plotting a return to the NBA. During his time in China, he has won three CBA championships, a CBA Finals MVP award, a CBA Foreign MVP award and was named to six All-Star teams.
