Several NFL owners including the Dallas Cowboys' Jerry Jones, Houston Texans' Bob McNair and New England Patriots' Bob Kraft, will be deposed and asked to turn over all cell phone records and emails in relation to the Colin Kaepernick collusion case, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Other owners will also be deposed, according to Schefter, but Jones, McNair and Kraft have been confirmed for now. Kaepernick filed a grievance under the NFL’s collective bargaining agreement for collusion against owners in the league a few weeks ago.
The filing alleges that NFL owners "have colluded to deprive Mr. Kaepernick of employment rights in retaliation for Mr. Kaepernick's leadership and advocacy for equality and social justice and his bringing awareness to peculiar institutions still undermining racial equality in the United States.”
According to CBS Sports, Kaepernick's legal team, which is being assisted by the NFL Players Association, has asked to speak to Houston Texans owner Bob McNair, who recently made comments at a league meeting referring to the players as inmates. Additionally, they've asked to speak with San Francisco 49ers owner Jed York, who Kaepernick used to play for, and Jerry Jones, who has been outspoken about player protests, insisting that any Cowboys player who didn't stand for the national anthem would be benched.
Kaepernick's legal team also requested access to emails and texts from specific teams, including Baltimore Ravens, who publicly considered signing Kaepernick, the Seattle Seahawks, who met with the free agent QB, and the Tennessee Titans, who did not contact Kaepernick after working out several quarterbacks this season.
According to CBS Sports' Jason La Confora,
"Per the discovery request, a search would be made for pertinent terms (for example: "Kaepernick," "workout," "Trump," "Jeff Nalley" (Kaepernick's agent) and all relevant strings of information would become part of the evidence in the case. This paperwork was sent out within the past week, the source said."
Earlier this week on The Adam Carolla Show, Kaepernick's agent, Mark Geragos, said he expects the free agent QB to be signed within 10 days because "every day that goes by just proves the collusion case even more."
