Luck won't be playing at all this season.

The Indianapolis Colts have officially announced that their franchise quarterback Andrew Luck won't be playing at all this season. Luck, who has been recovering from shoulder surgery, was placed on the injured reserve today.

The Colts had originally hoped that Luck would be ready for the start of the season, but he was never even able to throw the ball in practice. After sitting on the sidelines for eight weeks, the team finally put him on the IR today. That designation means Luck won't be playing, or practicing for the rest of the season.

Luck told the team's website (H/T Pro Football Talk),

“I wish I was better and 100 percent this season, but that’s not the case,” Luck said. “I know I’ll be better from this. I know I’ll be a better quarterback, teammate, person and player from this, and I’m excited for the future.”

The Colts have started Jacoby Brissett in Luck's absence thus far and will likely hold onto the job for the remainder of the season. After eight weeks, the Colts have a 2-6 record and will travel to Houston this Sunday for a matchup agains the Texans.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Colts worked out QBs Josh Johnson, Matt Barkley, Matt McGloin and Connor Shaw earlier this week but Brissett is expected to remain as the team's starting QB.
