LeBron James may have quietly purchased his Twitter verification.

LeBron James was one of the first large personalities to speak against the Twitter Blue subscription. James told his millions of followers that his check mark would soon be gone. Because he stated if you know him, then you know he isn't spending five dollars on the subscription. However, that may not be the case any longer. Thursday, Twitter unveiled its new subscription service to the entire user base. In order to continue being a verified account, one must subscribe to the Twitter Blue service.

Many users who were verified in the past have said their funny goodbyes to their social media stardom. While others are deciding whether the subscription is worth the money it takes to keep their account verified. It is still unknown if fake accounts will now take over accounts that will not be paying for the subscription. But that doesn't seem to be an issue for James. James' account is still verified. Users have taken a screenshot of James' verification to prove that his account is subscribed to Twitter Blue. Check out the photos below.

LeBron James' Twitter Still Verified

There could be many reasons as to why James has decided to keep his verification. For one, many believe that the spread of fake accounts and fake news will only grow with this subscription service. As celebrities and athletes that don't purchase the subscription will now be targets of more accounts pretending to be them. Since Elon's purchase of Twitter, there have been a few mishaps with the app. Including the highly criticized For You and Following pages separating what users see on the app.

James will not be the only athlete that will keep their verification. However, many in the sports world have discussed their feelings on the matter. Recent Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes stated that he wouldn't be purchasing the new subscription. A quick trip to his Twitter page will show you that Mahomes indeed did not purchase the service.
