AlunaGeorge debuted their new single on BBC Radio with Annie Mac earlier this afternoon, and it’s now hit the web with a stream. The record features a dancehall influence, thanks to featured artist Popcaan, but even in the production there’s a hint of that Jamaican touch.
Briefly, since they haven’t been featured all too much on the site in the past, the London-bred duo consists of Aluna Francis and George Reid. Aluna has possibly the most unique voice in the industry, it’s coy and child-like. Her other half often cooks up production that fluctuates between EDM and pop– here is no different. Aluna and Popcaan trade bars over the shape-shifting beat, which starts off mainly with percussion before getting deeper into synths and an electronic vibe.
I like crashing waves
But I want to see them at first light
After a long night
And see the sky take shape
But I want to see the stars burn
After I’ve had my turn
