Hear "The Valley," by Toronto's Jazz Cartier.

Toronto, largely thanks to Drake, has become a hotbed for hip-hop, though we shouldn't have to mention Drizzy alongside each new T-dot artist, especially when they're as talented, and unique, as Jazz Cartier. He just released his first full-length project, Marauding In Paradise, 16 beautifully cohesive tracks--and a major statement of purpose for a debut mixtape.

"The Valley" is one of Paradise's best tracks. We're kept on edge while Jazz takes us on a wild ride of emotions, from stifling insecurity to overpowering machismo. You never know what's coming next, and that's part of the fun. The production, from longtime collaborator Lantz, is just as dark and exciting as Cartier's raps.

Y'all think Jazz Cartier is TO's next-up?

Quotable Lyrics

I'm makin' a trip out to Cali, jacuzzi, got hoes in the valley
I'm the king of the court, but don't play me no games, I ain't tryin' to rally
The money keep comin', I'm countin', I'm losin' tally
