Tony Romo to be honored as "Maverick for a Day."

The Dallas Mavericks have announced that they're going to make former Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo an honorary member of the squad for their final home game of the season on Tuesday night.

Romo will be given his own #9 jersey and will be on the bench for the Mavs' home finale tomorrow against the Nuggets, though the team hasn't announced any specific plans regarding whether or not Romo will actually get any game time.

According to NBA.com

"I can't get into specifics at this time, but encourage fans to be in their seats when warmups begin at 7:15 p.m.," Carlisle said.

If Romo does get some burn, other than the layup line, former Maverick Caron Butler won't be surprised if he gets buckets.

Butler told ESPN,

"Believe it or not, man, when we were in the prime of our careers, I used to always talk about it: [Romo] could have easily been a professional basketball player," Caron Butler told ESPN. "And a lot of people were like, 'Man, you're crazy for saying that,' but Tony could shoot. He could handle the ball. He had a knack for scoring, man, he really did."

Romo recently announced his retirement from the NFL, though he'll remain close to the sport as a color analyst for CBS alongside Jim Nantz.
