Though Kendrick Lamar's latest album, To Pimp a Butterfly, was supposed to be released yesterday (March 23), it came out a week early (March 16). Thus, TPAB's first week numbers are in, and the album has taken the top spot on the Billboard 100. According to HDD, To Pimp a Butterfly moved 318,988 copies in its first week. Those figures do not include streaming, so we'll alert you when those numbers come in.
Earlier in the week, HDD posted their mid-week projections, to which the actual numbers correspond (300-325k). Including streaming, the predictions were between 350 and 375k, so look for a significant jump when those stats are released. To put the numbers in perspective, Drake's If You're Reading This, It's Too Late moved closed to 500k in its first week, and J. Cole's Forest Hill Drive sold just above 350k.
