While he didn't actually release an album last year, Kendrick Lamar managed to put the rap game in a stir. "Control" kept the rapper in the conversation throughout 2013, but in the new year, the rapper has been a little more low-key. One would assume that this is because K.Dot is getting ready to drop his highly anticipated follow-up to good kid, m.A.A.d city.
In an interview with Kube 93, Kendrick confirmed that he is in the process of recording a new record. "I'm workin' for sure," he said, revealing that Dr. Dre will also be contributing to the effort. "One thing about Dre is you can’t take the music away from him," he shared. "No matter how much money he has he’s going to be right there in that studio. That’s before the deal, after the deal, he’s always locked in that studio."
The Compton emcee then responded to a few comments rappers have made about him in the last little while, one of which was Lupe Fiasco's claim that he's not as strong a lyricist as Logic or King Los. "Everybody's entitled to their opinion, I just continue to do what I do," he said. "Everybody feel their own aspects of it, how they look at different artists, but I just continue to do what I do."
As far as Troy Ave's description of Kendrick as a "weirdo rapper", K.Dot was a little more confused. “I don' even know what the definition...," he said, laughing. "I never met him, I never really focused on his music either.”
Lamar later cleared up the report that he'd bought a humble suburban home for himself in California, revealing that the property was purchased as an investment. "It’s real, but it’s not my spot," he shared. "I really like to buy property whether it’s apartments, whether it’s buildings, whether it’s houses. I like to stay in L.A. I still live in L.A. in a small little apartment condo in L.A. I like to invest my money in different things rather than buying things for the moment. Something that can last me a lifetime."
