New York Yankees slugger Aaron Judge suffered a chip fracture in his right wrist after being hit by a pitch in the first inning of Thursday night's 7-2 win over the Kansas City Royals and is expected to be out of the lineup for at least three weeks.
Judge remained in the game after being hit by the pitch and reached on an infield single two innings later, but was removed from the game before his next at-bat. The 26-year old outfielder had entered Thursday's game batting .283 with 26 home runs and 61 RBIs.
According to reports, Judge underwent an MRI and CT scan at New York Presbyterian Hospital following an examination at Yankee Stadium by team physician Dr. Christopher Ahmad. While the team does not anticipate surgery, Judge still won't be able to swing a bat in a game for at least three weeks.
Shortly after his removal from the game, thousands of fans at Yankees Stadium utilized the flashlight app on their phones in order to hold an impromptu "candlelight vigil" when they realized Judge was going to the hospital for an MRI exam on his right wrist.
