Disney might as well own entertainment. Besides owning ESPN, Marvel, 21st Century Fox, Indiana Jones, and their own timeless tales, the media corporation also owns Star Wars. That's my entire childhood rolled up under the Disney umbrella at this point. Disney has been teasing their Star Wars themed amusement park extensions for the last three years, and now fans finally have an opening date for the new parks.
According to Disney's website, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will first open at Disneyland in Anaheim in the Summer of 2019. Disney’s Hollywood Studios at the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando will open their Star Wars world a few months later in late Fall. Each park will encompass 14-acres, which will be transformed into the planet Batuu. Disney's website describes Batuu as: "This remote outpost on the galaxy’s edge was once a busy crossroads along the old sub-lightspeed trade routes, but its prominence was bypassed by the rise of hyperspace travel. Now home to those who prefer to stay out of the mainstream, it has become a thriving port for smugglers, rogue traders and adventurers traveling between the frontier and uncharted space. It’s also a convenient safe haven for those intent on avoiding the expanding reach of the First Order."
There have been two confirmed rides. One will place visitors inside the Millennium Falcon, and the other will be an interactive battle between Stormtroopers and Resistance fighters.
