Golden State Warriors All-Star point guard Steph Curry is expected to miss several weeks, including some playoff games, due to a Grade 2 MCL sprain. According to ESPN's Chris Haynes, Warriors head coach Steve Kerr says there's "no way" Curry plays in the first round.
Curry will reportedly be re-evaluated again on April 14, just three days after Golden State's last regular season game in Utah.
"There's no way he's playing in the first round," Kerr said during his pregame media availability, according to ESPN. "There's no way. I mean, he'll be re-evaluated in three weeks. So, yeah, we have to be ready to play without him and see how he's coming along."
According to ESPN, the 2x NBA MVP will not travel with the team for the final five road games but he plans to rejoin the squad once the post-season rolls around. Naturally, he's hopeful that he'll be able to suit up once the playoffs start, although the team is preparing as if he won't be eligible to play until after the first round.
"Hopefully, I prove what coach said was wrong and put myself in position to get back as soon as possible," Curry said, per ESPN. "But right now, who knows? Just try to do my job in the rehab process and get back as soon as I can."
Curry is averaging 26.4 points, 6.1 assists and 5.1 rebounds in 51 games this season. With nine games remaining in the regular season, the Warriors are firmly planted in second place in the Western Conference with a 54-19 record, sitting 5.5 games back of the Houston Rockets and 9 games up on the third place Portland Trail Blazers.
